Mark has over 15 years of experience managing the operational, logistical, and technical aspects of scientific research projects across both governmental and non-governmental sectors. With a unique blend of specialised technical and logistical expertise, he has successfully facilitated multi-organisational scientific expeditions, domestic and international workshops and conferences, as well as various training and capacity-building initiatives. His work spans both domestic projects in Australia and international initiatives across Indonesia, Thailand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.

At BLS, Mark focuses on developing practical, cost-effective logistical solutions that strengthen scientific output and ensure long-term sustainability for research. Drawing on extensive international experience, he brings a deep understanding of the logistical and cultural dynamics involved in multi-country scientific operations as well as supporting training and capacity-building initiatives that connect scientists, policymakers, and communities across the Indo-Pacific.

Debarati holds an MSc in Marine Science from the University of Calcutta and is passionate about estuarine and coastal ecosystems, particularly mangroves and blue carbon. With experience across projects such as the IORA Blue Carbon Hub ECOP Programme, the National Youth Climate Consortium (Yuwaah UNICEF India), and the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council, she has built a strong foundation in ocean-climate education and stakeholder engagement.
 

A skilled science communicator, Debarati has moderated discussions at national and international marine conferences and works to bridge the gap between research, policy, and community action. At BLS, she supports and strengthens communication strategies, using her expertise to promote informed, accessible dialogue on ocean science and sustainability.
